Earlier this month, Animoca Brands partnered with Cross The Ages (CTA) to support the upcoming launch of Arise, a free-to-play multiplayer action-RPG built on Unreal Engine 5, and the broader Cross The Ages ecosystem.

What Drives Animoca’s Relentless Web3 Gaming Investments?

Beyond advising on Arise and CTA’s card game Blast (tokenomics, go-to-market strategy), Animoca is now buying CTA tokens on the open market to enhance liquidity and reinforce the project’s utility token economy.

This follows Animoca’s lead investment in CTA’s 2024 equity round.

Yat Siu, Co-Founder and Executive Chairman of Animoca Brands, emphasised that Web3 gaming deserves AAA-quality production and that Cross The Ages’ two-and-a-half-year development effort ‘showcases crypto gaming’s full potential.’

Sami Chlagou, CEO of Cross The Ages, noted that it has backed the team since its 2021 token launch and remains a key partner in driving a transmedia, blockchain-native IP.

Animoca Brands has consistently reinforced its position as a driving force in Web3 gaming through strategic investments and operational expertise.

In November 2021, Animoca Brands led a $5m (£3.95m) Series A investment in Talon, an esports organisation, accelerating its transition into blockchain-powered fan engagement through NFTs, play-to-earn mechanics and metaverse activations across Southeast Asia.

Talon CEO Sean Zhang credited Animoca Brands’ NFT and Web3 expertise with accelerating its shift from traditional esports to blockchain-powered fan engagement.

It operates on a three-pillar model. First, it develops and manages native Web3 projects. Second, it provides advisory services covering tokenomics, liquidity provisioning, and institutional research.

Finally, the company maintains an extensive investment portfolio that includes over 540 blockchain ventures, such as industry leaders Yuga Labs, Polygon, OpenSea and Dapper Labs. Together, these initiatives demonstrate Animoca’s comprehensive approach to Web3 development.
