Game developer Treyarch has teased the return of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3‘s Fringe map as part of the latest seasonal update for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.

The Call of Duty developer teased the map’s return by responding to a social media post published in December 2024.

Instead of offering one fan an immediate response to the post six months ago, the developer responded with a social media post, teasing Fringe’s return to Call of Duty for the first time since it debuted in 2015 as part of the Black Ops 3 map pool.

Throughout the Black Ops 6 cycle, Treyarch has remastered several maps from previous entries of the Black Ops series. Over the course of the three seasons of post-launch content, the developer has introduced Firing Range from the first Black Ops, Grind from Black Ops 2, and Hacienda from Black Ops 4.

Out of all the remastered maps, Hacienda is the only one to feature as part of the map pool used in the Call of Duty League (CDL), which is preparing for its fourth and final Major event taking place as part of DreamHack Dallas from May 23rd to 25th, 2025.

Will Fringe Return to Call of Duty Esports?

The Fringe map is no stranger to Call of Duty esports, having featured in the Black Ops 3 map pool during the 2015/16 season. Several parts of the map were designed to accommodate Black Ops 3’s wall-running movement mechanics, which are no longer present in Black Ops 6.

The CDL has adjusted its map pool for the past two Major events. While it’s too late for Fringe to feature in Major 4, there’s a chance it could appear for the season-ending Championship Weekend and the Esports World Cup if the tease leads to an official release. However, even if the map does come back, the league and its players must deem it appropriate for competitive play.
