What is the best way to seal a leaky metal chimney flue?

So my in laws like to live dangerously, and have jointed the metal flue for their wood burning stove (which they run often for winter heating) with screws and hope. There are gaps nearly big enough to fit a pinky finger in some places. They insist it has worked fine. I insist i dont want to breathe smoke and carbon monoxide. It seems like i could seal it with a high temperature suitable putty, or some high temperature metal flue tape rated to 600 degrees f. The latter sounds easier. Is there another option im missing or a reason not to just cover all the joints with metal flue tape? submitted by /u/Synaps4 [link] [comments]
