Band-Aid or Full Gut?
Recently purchased a house, and was planning to “band-aid” the bathroom for a few years (new paint, new vanity) for a couple of years. However, it now looks like we will need to plaster (walls are uneven after scraping), and I’ve noticed the shower surround starting to come off the wall (the shower surround also seems really short, which is causing some staining/possible mold which you can see in one photo). The complicating factor here is that we are eventually planning to put an addition on the house, which will very likely abut this bathroom - causing us to need to eventually close up the window. I think the chance that we change the footprint of the bathroom in the addition is extremely low (we would add an additional master bath - this is the only bath in the home currently), but of course is never zero until we hire an architect. I’d love to not have to redo the entire bathroom now (as we have a number of other projects in the works), but I worry about mold and things not being done correctly/causing additional damage. I’d also like to avoid re-doing work in a couple of years if we decide to put some money into fixing now and then decide we are going to do a full gut next year. We may also have access to the plumbing now as we are installing a washer/dryer in an adjacent room. What would you do? Are there considerations with closing up the window that I’m not aware of? The house has vinyl siding. Thanks in advance! https://imgur.com/a/XdxZtUN submitted by /u/jmpags [link] [comments]
