How to get ‘auto petters’ in Fields of Mistria

If you’re looking to automate your farm in Fields of Mistria, you’ll want an animal sprite statue, which is the game’s version of an auto petter that appears in similar games. This item was added in version 0.13.0 and is a later game item, requiring quite a bit of progression to unlock and craft.

Note that these can only be placed in large barns and large coops, so if you don’t have those yet, you should work on that first.

This process is pretty similar to how you unlock sprinklers (water sprite statues), too.

Below we explain how to unlock Fields of Mistria’s “auto petter” (the animal sprite statue) and how to craft more.

How to unlock the auto petter in Fields of Mistria

In order to unlock the animal sprite statue, you’ll need to get to level 60 of the mines and interact with the tablet to start the “Breaking the Fire Seal” questline. From here, you’ll be guided with what to do: chat with Juniper, get help from Balor, and hand over some items. After some cutscenes play out, you’ll be gifted a new ability: Dragon’s Breath. (You will also unlock Caldarus as a romance candidate by continuing on with this quest.)

After you unlock the new skill, you’ll want to head to Errol’s Cabin in The Narrows and take a look at the blocked cave next to the house. Use the Dragon’s Breath ability to crack that cavern open.

Use the Dragon’s Breath ability, making sure to aim upward after using it, to blast away those rocks. After doing so, you can enter the cave and get an animal sprite statue, along with the recipe to make more.

How to make animal sprite statues

To make more statues, you’ll need to progress in the town’s story a bit, reaching at least these requirements:

  • Reach level 55 renown
  • Complete the “Repair the Inn” story quest

Once you do so, you’ll get some mail from Adeline saying to meet you in front of the mines to make a Stone Refinery. Using the refinery, you can make cut stone and essence stones, which you’ll need to make and power the statues.

You’ll need to place essence stones on the statues in order to power them. Bigger stones will keep your statues powered for longer, so we recommend making the biggest ones for the sake of convenience. You can also find essence stones in treasure chests in the mines, if you’re lucky.

To make one statue, you’ll need the following:

  • 10 cut stone
  • 50 essence
  • 3 shiny beads

You can get shiny beads by hand feeding your animals, though you’ll need the “Currency of Care” ranching skill unlocked to get them. If you have the more advanced version of the skill, you may get beads passively by just caring for your animals normally.
