Living in Las Vegas- home window tinting or solar screens?

I’m in need of putting something on our east, south, and west-facing windows. The first reason is to protect our new artificial turf going in next week in the east yard. Secondly, we want to keep the west side of the house cooler during the hot months. We received quotes from both solar screens and window tinting companies. The solar screens would be $3,000, and the window tinting would be $4,100. We were surprised to see the tinting costing more. The issues that are making this decision difficult are because, aesthetically, we like the film better than the screens; however, our windows warranty (new house) is void if anything is placed directly onto the windows (film). Supposedly, window film causes the seal of the double-pane windows to fail. From what I’ve found online, this isn’t true, but that doesn’t matter because it voids the warranty anyways. The last question is, if we go with film, why wouldn’t I want to get the product from Home Depot and install it myself? I know it’s a pain to do it, and I could mess it up, but the price difference of doing it myself or having a professional do it is 10x. Thoughts? Thanks! submitted by /u/Better_End_8022 [link] [comments]
