Outdoor Ceiling Fan from Wire Rope?
I live in Florida so it gets hot and buggy if we try to eat at the dining table that I have on my backyard deck. I've been looking for a solution so we could enjoy the space without getting eaten alive. I already have a professional mosquito service, make sure there is no standing water on my property, etc but can't speak for my neighbors. I've thought about getting one or 2 oscillating fans but I've had a hard time finding any that are wet rated and reasonable priced so... Today I ordered a wet rated ceiling fan (https://tinyurl.com/2ukk9mex) from Amazon and am planning to hang it over my patio dining table from a 10' length of 1/8" vinyl coated wire rope stretched between 2 trees. The ropes' breaking strength is 1,700 lbs. I created loops on each end using crimping sleeves and attached these to turnbuckles which I can use to tighten it down. Each end attaches to a stainless steel diamond shaped pad eye plate that is screwed into a tree. The fan only weighs 13.8 lbs and will be plugged into an outdoor GFCI outlet in the soffit. Is this a good idea? submitted by /u/TheRealJohnnyGinFL [link] [comments]
