Los Angeles Thieves player Dylan ‘Envoy’ Hannon has criticised the Call of Duty League (CDL) ahead of its season-ending Championship Weekend event.
Hannon reveals that issues with Call of Duty: Black Ops 6‘s in-game spectator tools have resulted in problems surrounding which build of the title is used for competitive play.
In a social media post from June 2nd, 2025, Envoy reveals that the accounts used at CDL events are on a patch from three months ago. Moreover, Championship Weekend will see players compete on the build used as part of the Season 3 Reloaded update from May 1st.
The winner of CDL Major 4 claims there is no way the Call of Duty League can use the Season 3 Reloaded build at Championship Weekend due to issues with the title’s Call of Duty caster tool, which has impacted the esport throughout the season.
“CDL accounts on 3-month-old patch. Retail accounts are on Season 4 and CDL is insisting we will be playing on Season 3.5 for Champs, although there is no way to play on it currently,” explained Envoy.
“The game is vastly different on Season 3.5 to Season 4 for Control. There just needs to be rules outlined in the handbook for stuff like patch switching.”
This isn’t the first time Envoy has shared frustrations surrounding problems with the in-game broadcasting tool. Following an update designed to fix issues with CoDcaster on May 7th, the player and other CDL pros criticised the lack of fixes, claiming Call of Duty isn’t a serious esports title.
The Call of Duty League has yet to reveal details on the build being used for its season-ending tournament, taking place from June 26th to 29th in Kitchener, Canada. If the most recent update isn’t optimised for competitive play, the chances of Championship Weekend using the same build as Major 4 is high.
