Improving Drain field maintenance/mowing.
I've been facing this issue for some time now. I purchased a home a few years ago and the septic system was a wreck. Before purchase (and contingent upon purchase) the septic system was completely replaced. Oddly, we were left with a drain field that had PVC caps sticking out of the ground. Originally when this was all installed, it was winter, so wasn't a big deal, but there were mounds where the drain field is. I can only assume the mounds are because of the area we live in having a high water table? I did discuss with the company that installed this but never really got a good answer on how to make this area easier to maintain, specifically mowing. Several years later some of these caps have sunk into the dirt while others are still sticking up but, as you can image the grass around here grows insanely fast (well watered/fertilized I guess). Up until now, I've been cutting it the best I can, trimming it with a trimmer and it's getting to be a huge pain and very time consuming. I was curious if anyone had come across a simple way to avoid having to even deal with the caps. I was thinking of wrapping the whole area in a layer of stone with edging (obviously this would take some work to keep weeds out. Sort of like a rock garden around an entire row of PVC caps sticking up. Won't look the best but it's hidden behind our house mostly. Curious any thoughts? It's become a pain to deal with. I had to go away on a 3 week trip for work a few years ago and despite repeated warnings to a landscaper that came to cut the grass, he still wrecked 3 of the PVC caps, which I had to replace when I got home. I've also hit a few by mistake.... Thanks in advance. submitted by /u/Neat_Objective [link] [comments]
